mútua
Designing a taxonomy to help impact capital navigate complex systems.
01· context
Mútua is building the intelligence layer for impact capital markets, helping capital allocators and fundraisers navigate complex social and environmental challenges through evidence-backed Theories of Change.
At the center of the product is a taxonomy designed to connect challenges, systems, missions, and innovations into a shared framework. The project explored how this structure could be communicated clearly, making an unfamiliar and highly interconnected model understandable to investors, experts, and other stakeholders.
02· my role
Visual Storytelling · Information Design · Presentation Design
I worked on translating Mútua's conceptual framework into a presentation that could communicate the logic of the taxonomy, explain its methodology, and demonstrate its application through real-world examples.
03· the challenge
The taxonomy sits at the intersection of systems thinking, impact investing, collective intelligence, and artificial intelligence.
The challenge was not simply explaining the model, but making relationships, processes, and pathways understandable without oversimplifying the complexity that gives the framework its value.
04· key decisions
decision #1
Transform a complex ecosystem into a navigable structure.
The taxonomy connected challenges, systems, missions, and innovations into a single framework, making relationships easier to understand and explore.
decision #2
Build a shared language across multiple forms of intelligence.
The taxonomy created a common structure for connecting AI-generated insights, expert knowledge, and investment opportunities.
decision #3
Apply the framework to a real-world system.
The Food System served as a proof of concept, demonstrating how complex challenges could be translated into missions, critical innovations, and investment opportunities.
05· outcome
The project transformed a highly interconnected conceptual model into a navigable narrative that could be shared across investors, experts, and strategic partners.
More importantly, it demonstrated how visual storytelling can help bridge the gap between systems thinking and action, turning abstract concepts into structures that people can understand, discuss, and use.
